MEDIA AND VISUAL ARTS
An exhibition by ANN SAINT-GELAIS
Between characters and gardens, the multidisciplinary artist ANN SAINT-GELAIS finds her balance in a back and forth movement between the inner and the outer world. The title of the exhibition, evokes the paradox of her creative approach, an intense inner journey filled with serenity, lived in a moment of impulse and urgency where the intellect is not invited and is expressed by a first rough draft of color. Her works, built from digital creations through collages, inspire her plastic work with mediums such as acrylic, oil and pastel. ANN SAINT-GELAIS demonstrates sensitivity to atmospheres, matter, light, water, air, plants and humans. Her paintings, deliberately stripped down, touches the essential.
Born in 1950 in Saguenay-Lac-Saint-Jean, ANN SAINT-GELAIS enrolled in her first oil painting classes at the Institut des Arts in Saguenay at the age of eight. She holds a DEC in Plastic Arts from CEGEP de Chicoutimi as well as a certificate in Art History and a bachelor's degree in Plastic Arts Education from the University of Quebec at Chicoutimi. A multidisciplinary artist, she has practiced drawing, painting, sculpture, trompe-l'oeil, computer graphics, installation, photography and object design.
Along with her artistic creation, she worked in graphic design, art decoration and adult education in various public schools in Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean.
