Parc national du Fjord-du-Saguenay is a true fjord region and offers hiking excursions for all skill levels over a variety of distances. The well landscaped trails offer breathtaking views that are well worth the detour. Back-country campsites are also available. Presenting a list of our favorite trails:

In all of the Saguenay boroughs, easy access is guaranteed to hiking trails in a semi-urban or wilderness environments. Most offer free admission at all times except for Centre plein air Bec-Scie, dogs on leashes are welcome.

Centre plein-air Bec-Scie
In the heart of the Rivière-à-Mars canyon, the Centre Plein Air Bec-Scie offers stunning landscapes no matter the season. Explore the different trails with interpretive signs and picnic areas.

Sentiers du Mont-Jacob
Mont Jacob offers exceptional views of the district of Jonquière. There are two main trails and a secondary trail. You'll find a belvedere, works of art and magnificent viewpoints along the way. No charge for admission

The Sentiers du Saguenay
The trail network's main axis is along Saguenay River between Rue Tourangeau and the Mont Fortin ski centre, besides a closed loop in the Manoir du Saguenay area. The paths are wide, well marked, easy for walking and offers many natural viewpoints. No charge for admission

Saguenay Fjord South Shore ▴
Sentier Notre-Dame, Kapatakan
Saguenay–Lac-Saint-Jean's small "Compostela" stretches over 215 km, connecting the Parc national du Fjord-du-Saguenay from Rivière-Éternité to the National Sanctuary Ermitage Saint-Antoine de Lac-Bouchette. During this pilgrimage, 14 theme-based sectors are offered throughout cities and villages, allowing for the discovery of places of spirituality, culture and nature.

Sentier du Lac-Kénogami
This trail with three shelters has a suspension bridge and self-propelled platforms. It's located between Mont Lac-Vert and the City of Saguenay (Laterrière).

Sentiers de L'Anse-Saint-Jean
Nestled in the mountain valley, L’Anse-Saint-Jean is a unique natural haven along the coastline of the Saguenay Fjord. Its exceptional beauty is recognized by the Association des plus beaux villages du Québec (association for the most beautiful villages in Québec).

Sentiers du Mont-Édouard
During the summer, the Mont-Édouard recreational centre offers trails from the foot of the mountain all the way to the top. A 60-foot observation tower and 5 scenic vistas anchored between cliffs offer exceptional views of the glacial valley and backcountry! No charge for admission.

Petit-Saguenay River
Trail that skirts along the magnificent Petit-Saguenay River, it begins at the Club des Messieurs, at 1.7 km upstream from the village. It grants access to salmon fishing pitfalls. At 2.5 km, an approximately 30-meter long suspended footbridge spans the river.

Sentiers Village-Vacances Petit-Saguenay
From l'anse Saint-Étienne, where an ancient village once stood, you'll have access to a trail offering magnificent panoramic views of the Saguenay Fjord. The trails can also be reached from the Village-Vacances.

Sentier Les Murailles
These trails introduce hikers to the backcountry of the Bas-Saguenay area forged by glaciers millions of year ago. While travelling though the deep valleys, visitors will understand why this path has the name “Les Murailles” (the walls). Since Coop Quatre Temps are no longer operating, we suggest contacting one of the tourist information centres in Petit-Saguenay and L'Anse-Saint-Jean for information on trail conditions.

Saguenay Fjord North Shore ▴
Sentier des Marais
The Sentier des Marais extends Gaudreault pond. Travel across the boreal forest, a peat bog and marsh. Climb rocky capes offering panoramic views of the surrounding areas. Birdwatchers can observe 130 species of birds in the marshes of Lac Duclos. No charge for admission.

Site de Chute-aux-galets
Two routes lead to this site located in Chute-aux-Galets. The first (easy, 1.2 km) trail is a pedestrian walkway where you can enjoy views of magnificent 20-meter high waterfalls. The second (intermediate, 3.8 km) allows for the discovery of many attractions such as natural limestone, the local birds and maybe even a glimpse of rafters speeding down the river. Map available along the trail. No charge for admission.

Sentier pédestre de Bégin
The departure point of this 5-km long trail is at the covered bridge. Along the length of the trail, signs marked with a hiking boot indicate the trail and the number of kilometers traveled. You can visit the Grotte de l'ours (bear cave) during your excursion.

Sentier de la Chute Gagnon
Explore the Municipality of Saint-Ambroise's backcountry via the hiking trail to discover the majestic Gagnon falls. Maps available at the town hall. No charge for admission.

Explore 8 hiking trails totaling almost 10 kilometers nestled in the heart of a magnificent natural environment. In addition to three scenic vistas offering stupendous panoramic views, the site also offers a beautiful sandy beach with views overlooking the fjord.
